A collection curated by one of the biggest Brit fashion influencers, crafted by a heritage UK retailer, and given a 90’s ‘cool Britannia’ twist with my own personal styling. Raise your cup of tea to the new ‘Archive by Alexa Chung’ collection for M&S. Ms Chung was handed a dream task of trawling through the M&S fashion archives, which date back to the late 1800’s, to create a capsule collection of timeless pieces.
I love how you get a feel for bygone eras from each piece, but they each have a modern take to make them completely wearable. The 60’s pastel jumper, awesome androgynous shirt dress that actually came straight out of the men’s archives, Victoriana-style ruffled blouse, and an incredible double breasted jacket which immediately made me think of the Beatles. This is British fashion at its finest, and all the best bits of vintage style without scouring flea markets.
Even though this collection is a stylish skip through nearly a century of Brit fashion, when I pulled my looks together it totally said 90’s to me. The jumper and gingham skirt could be straight from the set of Clueless and the chunky Chelsea boots give every outfit that additional 90’s grunge.
It’s about time I invited some Brit icons to my wardrobe.
