I attended the most chic, stylish, luxurious dinner event – set in an underground cellar lit by opulent chandeliers, styled with decadent place settings and featuring crystal cut glassware that looked just as dazzling as my favourite pieces of jewelry. You’re probably wondering which fashion label created this stunning spectacle… It was actually the creative vision of Penfolds, The iconic South Ausralian winery.
I was flown to Adelaide to celebrate the launch of the Penfolds 2016 Collection and a significant collaboration between these gifted wine makers and the French crystal gods of Cristallerie Royal de Saint-Louis, all at the winery’s spiritual home The Magill Estate. This event certainly put a new spin on my view of ‘vintage’ – Penfolds has been around since 1844 , and Saint Louis since 1586!
The evening featured two of my favourite things in life; quality wine and an array of men in tuxedos! (Hehe!) Penfolds has most recently collaborated with Saint-Louis master craftsmen to create an incredible crystal decanter which would bring the toughest of men to their knees! I was also able to meet the man behind the brand Jèrôme de Lavergnolle CEO of Cristalleries de Saint-Louis – a brand which is part of the Hermes group. So obviously we had lots to talk about!
A degustation menu that had my mouth watering from the get go (Thank you Scott Huggins and Emma McCaskill) and a wine list which included 2004 Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2002 Grange.
I even squeezed in time to taste Penfold’s signature Grange, from my birth year – Of course a lady never reveals her age but I can testify this was a delicious drop and a GREAT year for Grange! The night was made even more memorable with notes from Penfolds chief wine maker Peter Gago, and actor Sam Neil.
An absolutely divine event with fine wines, incredible food and refined company. Penfolds, you sure know how to spoil a girl.
