If you’re anything like me, the festive season is the ultimate excuse to show off some on-trend party outfits. Months before, I’m scouting the collections and putting looks together for Christmas Eve (something relaxed and sparkly), Christmas Day (a pretty dress always works), and the big one – New Year’s Eve.
I’ll happily admit that I ADORE New Year’s Eve. It’s always an emotional night reflecting on the year that was, thinking about what’s to come over the next 12 months, and surrounding myself with my gang of girlfriends as we take over the dance floor on the biggest eve of the year.
So the New Year’s Eve look is kind of a big deal to me. I have a few personal rules that I try to follow:
- Touch on a current trend, but make sure the outfit has timeless appeal.
- Pick a look that’s cool AND comfortable. NYE can easily slide in to NYD – and that’s one long party!
- The same goes for heels. Sturdy as well as stylish.
- Keep hair and makeup manageable and durable. Complex up-do’s and heavy eyeliner is out, relaxed waves and dewy complexions are in. The aim is to end the party looking as fresh as you were at the start.
This year I’m torn between three elegant looks from Witchery. It’s like their designers read my mind and incorporated my fashion wish list in to this party collection:
Who can resist look Look 1, the ultimate silver siren. The mercury is definitely rising! This metallic pleated midi dress is the definition of a ‘party’ outfit. A nude shoe and dainty earrings are all you need in the accessories department.
Look 2 is all about the velvet crush – giving a nod to one of the season’s biggest fabrics, this slip dress is so perfectly simple with the velvet giving it a touch luxe edge. I can see myself hopping from fireworks at a cocktail party to all-night underground disco in this number.
Look 3 is achingly cool but still rooted in classic tailored style, turning to fashion’s favourite contract of monochrome. The two-toned bangle totally throws out “mod” vibes, but add in a bare shoulder and it gives it that modern twist.
Show stopping looks to take me to midnight (and beyond). See you on the dance floor.
