I’ve found my new go-to shopping haunt in Melbourne, and in contrast to the indie boutiques in Chapel Street and luxe Laneways stores, this stylish gem is out in the ‘burbs. Here’s my sartorial guide to Eastland.
First up, there’s nothing generic or soulless about this space. Eastland has been crafted by lovely architects in a $665million makeover and is everything I want in a shopping experience. Bright airy interiors, lots of natural light and monochrome palettes, and beautifully presented boutiques that honestly rival anything I’ve seen in Europe and the States.
What’s also cool is Eastland’s ‘Arcade’, a hip little area dedicated to emerging designers where I spent hours rifling through rails of newly-discovered labels. I love this concept – start-up brands need a spotlight and it’s fab to see VIC’s fashion upstarts getting the platform to connect with customers.
And then there’s the heavyweights. I was dashing between Scanlan & Theadore and H&M – The store selection is that diverse, and it was a stylists dream to bounce between shops and create looks from global brands, Aussie favourites, and edgy newbies.
Here’s my take on Autumn vibes, Eastland style. Reds and earth hues naturally, loud and proud knits, the new take on drape, muted prints, and you know me – I couldn’t resist a good shoulder-robed blazer!
PS: fashion aside, the art installations throughout Eastland are SO on point. It’s a huge hit of subliminal culture while you’re shopping. And how did they know I have a serious penchant for Adriano Zumbo’s macarons. The pop-up bakery was my lifesaver after a manic styling session!
