Ahhh that western trend – all that hip fringing, dusty suede and cracked cowboy boots, and even though I loved the theme and it’s cultural allusions (hello the Hateful Eight), I thought this is a big bold look for tall willowy women, and my petite frame will get swamped in those wild west layers.
Luckily I’ve been proved wrong thanks to the savvy designers at Coach. Those legends have brought the West to their luxury world in the chicest of ways, slipping subtle references in ready-to-wear and buckling down to the trend with their leather goods, and the beauty is everything still feels feminine, luxe and cool.
Like a fashion-toting lone ranger I raided the latest collection to scout my Western-inspired look. I just adore this colour palette – deep and powder blues set off against creamy tans and a dash of orange. The leather skirt paired with fitted knit is just the kind of offbeat, borderline nerdy daytime look I love having in my wardrobe. This could easily take me from a working lunch to a first date, with the addition of Coach’s hardworking “saddle” bag. And of course my western-windswept hair (these loose waves are perfect for my current ‘in between’ length).
Not bad for a trainee cowgirl! And proof that wearing trends doesn’t have to be all or nothing, you can pull favourite parts from a look and work it your way.
